Home Based Business: The DEATH OF the ATTENTION Of The Marketer

I love reading Rich Schefren’s stuff.  He writes well.  His manifestos are nice and long and have many pictures and graphs and maps.  I have learned a lot from his stuff, and it’s all FREE.

And I love Mike Filsaime and Ellie Drake.  Their “Death Of…” stuff is insightful and speaks from experience.  I never did MLM or any of that stuff, but these 2 obviously did and made a ton of money at it.  And again - FREE stuff.

But what in looking over what they wrote, I was impressed by what was missing.  And that is: the SECRET.  The thing that they know, but we don’t.  The key that will unlock internet marketing for us.

Mr. Schefren’s focus on “getting attention” is exactly the same “insight” that supermarkets had when they started putting advertising on shopping carts, or that soda companies had when they started doing “product placement” in movies.  It’s actually the OPPOSITE of the NUMBER ONE compaint about lawyers (“my lawyer didn’t communicate enough with me”).

And the “death of” series, while interesting, shows that customer-focused marketing isn’t DEAD - just TRANSFORMED.  I had used GROW and EVOLVED in some ads and articles that I had written (“Building A Community Of The Visitors To Your Website“).

So as entertaining and amusing as these documents have been, I’ve reached the conclusion that they are just another form of marketing for these respective individuals, to get YOU scared enough to buy the NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH that is on the horizon.

Oh, by the way.  I am NOT a guru.  I haven’t made millions of dollars on the internet.  I work a full-time job as a trial litigator because my online marketing does not provide me a full-time income.  I’m not Rich Schefren or Mike Filsaime or Ellie Drake, and I’m not a threat to become any one of them.  So who am I to criticize these people, who among them have generated millions and millions of dollars?

I am the target of their marketing.  I am the recipient of their advertising.  I am the customer who can either swallow the propaganda or spit it out.

This works fine for them.  They will make hundreds of thousands of dollars from these campaigns, while I will get a little thrill the next time I see “Notification of payment” in my Inbox.  And what they are doing is completely ethical, honest, useful, and productive.  I just see it a different way.

I am starting this blog for TWO reasons:
1. I think online marketing is simply off-line marketing FASTER and with better COMMUNICATION with the customers.
2. I want to start a COMMUNITY of online marketers and home based business owners, to DIALOGUE and DISCUSS techniques, problems and solutions - WITHOUT pitching and selling to each other.

So hopefully we can begin a journey together.  Cooperatively.  Where the owner of a home based dog grooming business and the owner of a karate dojo help each other out WITHOUT pitching a $997 product.  Just share your knowledge.
